Yasuo Otsuka is dead, storic animator of Lupin III and Conan (the boy of the future)

Yasuo Otsuka (Tsuwano, Shumane prefecture, July 11, 1931 – March 15, 2021)

He’s dead at 89 years old, storic animator, character designer, animation director of Lupin III and Conan the boy of the future.

The notice of his dissaperance  is been released by Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghibli productor, at 2021 Tokyo Anime Awards Festival.

He worked in the first two TV series of Lupin and in many movies and specials, i.e. “Castle of Cagliostro” (1979), “Fuma Conspiracy” (1987) e “Farewell to Nostradamus (1995), he chosen the jacket colours and the iconic car Fiat 500 white (first series) and yellow (second series).

He worked with Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata in many productions, i.e. “The Tale of the White Serpent”, “Hols’ great adventure”), “Anju to Zushiōmaru”, “The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon” e “Puss in boots” (1969).

After he has left the profession, he teached mechanical animation at Yoyogi Animation Academy.

In 2019 he received a special award by Japan Academy Film Prize Association.
